Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) is seeking an individual to fill the role of Neighbor Experience Specialist as a member of our programs team. The neighbor experience specialist serves as the first point of contact for individuals and families seeking food assistance through Greater Lansing Food Bank. This position helps neighbors navigate available services, determines program eligibility, coordinates food distribution programs, and connects people with community resources.
The ideal candidate enjoys helping others, communicating well, staying organized, and is committed to providing respectful, reliable service.
This is a full-time, 36 base hours weekly, non-exempt position located in Bath, MI. This position is primarily office-based with occasional workday travel throughout GLFB’s service area for outreach events, partner meetings, and program support. Work hours are generally during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

- Serve as the first point of contact for neighbors seeking food assistance and community resources by responding to phone calls, emails, online applications, and walk-in inquiries in a timely and respectful manner
- Confidentially and professionally complete eligibility screening and assist neighbors with applications for GLFB programs
- Coordinate and occasionally assist with day-to-day activities for GLFB food distribution programs, including home delivery and senior food programs
- Review applications and determine eligibility based on program guidelines
- Communicate program updates and delivery changes with neighbors, community partners, volunteers, and staff
- Coordinate with delivery vendors and community partners to help ensure reliable food distribution
- Support additional food access programs as organizational needs change
- Maintain accurate participant records and program documentation
- Communicate important updates with staff and community partners
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve service delivery
- Represent GLFB at community events and partner meetings as needed
- Build positive relationships with neighbors and community organizations
- Support department and organization-wide initiatives
- Experience in customer service, human services, nonprofit, healthcare, education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Exhibit genuine desire to help people and provide outstanding customer service
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while remaining flexible
- Sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
- Bilingual skills are a plus
