Join our team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner – Surgery – Cardiovascular in Lansing, MI, and make a meaningful impact in a dynamic cardiovascular surgery department. This essential role offers a unique opportunity to work within a renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, providing high-quality patient care in a collaborative and supportive environment. Starting in February, this position is ideal for experienced APPs seeking flexible shifts and valuable clinical exposure while contributing to life-saving procedures.
In this role, you will perform rounds, support cardiac and vascular surgeons, and manage a diverse patient population in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. The position entails four 10-hour shifts per week, with participation in a rotating on-call schedule (one week in four), including weekend coverage. No OR responsibilities are required; instead, your focus will be on patient rounding, support, and discharge planning across ICU and floor units.
Expected patient volumes range from 15 to 30 patients during weekends and higher on weekdays, with daily patient encounters averaging between 2 and 10.
Required Skills:
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in Michigan or ability to obtain
- Prior experience in cardiovascular or surgical patient care
- Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and efficiently manage patient caseloads
- Familiarity with Epic EMR system
Skills:
- Cardiology or surgical subspecialty certification
- Experience in trauma or acute care settings
- Bilingual skills to enhance patient communication
- Prior locum or temporary staffing experience
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN or higher)
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner in cardiovascular or surgical specialties
- Proven ability to adapt swiftly to new clinical environments
- Valid state licensure and certifications (APRN, BLS, ACLS)
- Reliable access to transportation for potential travel reimbursements
- Willingness to work flexible hours as per the schedule
- Ability to provide documentation for credentialing and compliance
