RN Clinical Unit Leader - Emergency Care - Full Time - Variable
The Clinical Unit Leader (CUL) under general supervision from the department manager and/or director, and in accordance with policies and guidelines established within the organization and individual unit, priority is to function as shift supervisor and clinical liaison with staff, physicians, and management, providing continuity of leadership day to day. The CUL, in conjunction with the Department Manager, acts as a supervisor, role model, mentor, coach, and resource person to staff to ensure that all unit standards are maintained, and a team-oriented work environment is maintained.
The CUL is involved in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff members. Duties will include assisting with hiring, orientation, monitoring, and evaluating performance, problem solving, employee counseling and corrective action, staffing, assignment and direction of staff and payroll. In addition to duties involving unit personnel, the CUL serves as a contact for internal and external customers. He/she is responsible for creating an environment, which fosters positive customer service and meets all quality and accreditation standards, implementing new and monitoring ongoing processes.
Clinical Practice:
Rotate to the off shifts as determined by staffing needs and the nurse manager to provide clinical assessment, mentoring, coaching, and evaluation of staff.
Management of Clinical Area:
Participate in the development and implementation of unit or area goals and objectives. Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements. Participate in planning and problem solving of daily unit/area operations, priorities of patient services, and urgent, and emergent care.
QA and Research:
Participate in planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit quality metrics and quality improvement activities. Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by unit nursing staff. Promote staff involvement in evidence-based practice and clinical research, as applicable.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with the expectation of obtaining a BSN within five (5) years
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an acute care environment
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current Michigan Nursing License
Valid BLS certification
ACLS certification within one (1) year of hire
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Ability to problem solve; effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills necessary for effective leadership of the patient care team
Strong nursing processes, critical thinking, and advanced assessment skills required
Knowledge about and experience in the department population served
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in a leadership role (Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, etc…)
