General
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director / Nurse Manager, the Assistant Clinical Manager assumes both a clinical and management role. The position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the provision of patient care services within the department. The Assistant Clinical Manager aids in the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets, quality improvement programs, staffing levels, goals, objectives, regulatory compliance, and policies within the department and assists in the evaluation and discipline of personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Director/Nurse Manager, plans and implements management strategies, goals and objectives appropriate to the unit’s operations.Provides unit leadership on the off-shift at least 75% of the time worked.Coordinates staffing assignments and delegates work based on acuity, caregiver skill, and competency.Collects data and monitors patient charts for appropriate documentation and follow‑through of orders; evaluates patient care delivery to ensure compliance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.Provides timely communication to staff.Serves as a clinical resource and mentor.Regularly performs the work of staff nurse per budgeted expectations and unit needs.Assists in supervising the in‑service education program and follows up to evaluate effectiveness and determine the need for revisions of methods and materials.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in an ethical and professional manner.Informs the Director/Nurse Manager of nursing activities, needs, problems, and unusual events.Assists in the review and evaluation of unit personnel.Assumes 24‑hour responsibility for the administrative management in collaboration with the nurse manager for a designated patient care area.Makes recommendations to the Director/Nurse Manager to hire, promote, and discipline nursing staff.Promotes HFHS Quality Initiatives and Service Excellence Initiatives; establishes effective working relationships with other departments.Conducts shift huddles.Maintains frequent communication with the Director/Nurse Manager regarding information pertinent to patient care and resolves complaints and problems with employees, patients, families, physicians, and the general public.Makes routine nursing rounds/audits on personnel, timecards, equipment, materials, supplies, etc.Responsible for the environment of care, including infection control and emergency preparedness.Education / Experience Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Three years of charge experience.
Certifications / Licenses
- Current RN license in the State of Michigan.
- ACLS certified.
- Other certifications appropriate for the specific unit.
