Neonatology Nurse Practitioner

Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation and treatment of neonates in the RNICU in collaboration with the Neonatologists.

• Assess, plan, and evaluate medical care in collaboration with the Neonatologists.
• Report accurately and concisely in patient care rounds and problem-oriented documentation.
• Collaborate with the health care team in planning and coordinating care for the neonate and his/her family through care conferences.
• Order diagnostic studies and therapeutic measures in collaboration with the responsible physician.
• Order medications utilizing approved NICU goals, guidelines and protocols (includes blood and blood products).
• Attend high-risk deliveries, resuscitate and stabilize patients.
• Determine need for and perform core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and other procedures.
• Perform procedures such as exchange transfusion, initiation of oscillator ventilator support, pericardiocentesis, thoracotomy for chest tube insertion after consultation with a Neonatologist (unless life threatening).
• Provide direction to NNTS on transport or participate in transports when appropriate.
• Provide consultation to Newborn Nursery and Perinatal areas.
• Assist in clinical supervision and teaching of residents, advanced practice nursing students, and PA students.
• Participate in performance evaluations.
• Formulate long- and short-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses.
• Participate in formulation, revision and implementation of policies and procedures in the RNICU.
• Participate in performance improvement.
• Assist in maintaining a climate conducive to open communication.
• Act as a role model and resource for peers, residents and nursing staff.
• Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Ethics, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
• Serve as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of those we serve.
• Demonstrate knowledge and respect for patient, service provider, and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
• Maintain and protect patients' rights under the HIPAA privacy standards.
• Apply research findings in practice and teaching.
• Support and participate in research activities.
• Promote understanding of research projects and/or findings for nursing students, staff, and peers.

• Minimum of 3 years NNP/PA experience.
• Previous lead experience – preferred.

• Graduate of an accredited PA or NNP program.
• Current NP licensure in the State of MI.

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, normal maternal/fetal growth and development, and requirements of Advanced practice provider practice.
• Ability to independently seek out resources and solve complex problems.
• Effective communication with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
• Use of sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up.
