Position: VETERINARIAN 12 (FIELD) PERMANENT/INTERMITTENT

About this Position

The Animal Industry Division (AID) of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is committed to protecting, regulating, and promoting animal health. In doing so, public health, animal health and well‑being, and animal industries are safeguarded through collaborative efforts and implementation of effective programs. The purpose of this position is to protect human and animal health, to promote and protect Michigan animal industries, and to assure the public of quality, healthy animals, including food animals, equine, cervidae, exotic animals, and companion animals.

This position functions as a general field veterinarian handling the most complex inspections, investigations, and training.

The selected candidate must reside in one of the following counties:
Gratiot, Genesee, Saginaw, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, Lapeer, or St Clair, OR within ten miles, OR be willing to relocate within 12 months of hire.

Education

Possession of a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.

Experience

One year of professional experience performing veterinary services involving the inspection of animals for the purpose of enforcing state and federal regulations pertinent to the detection and eradication of disease, including one year of experience equivalent to a Veterinarian P11.

Licenses & Certifications
  • DEA License for Controlled Substances
  • Michigan Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance License
  • USDA Veterinary Accreditation
  • USDA Certification for Cervidae TB Testing
  • Negative Tuberculosis Test (Intradermal, Mantous) Annually
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan (required)
  • Valid Driver’s License (preferred)
Compensation

One-time sign‑on bonus of up to $5,000, at the discretion of the employer. This bonus requires a minimum one‑year commitment and must be paid back in full if not met.
