Role Description

The Associate Veterinarian is a full-time, on-site role based at Pets Ahoy Animal Hospital in Macomb, MI. The veterinarian will perform physical examinations, diagnose conditions, develop treatment plans, and provide medical, surgical, and dental care for companion animals. Daily responsibilities include reviewing diagnostic tests, maintaining accurate medical records, prescribing medications, and communicating clearly with pet caregivers about treatment options and preventive care.

The role involves collaborating with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care and a safe, organized clinical environment. The Associate Veterinarian will also participate in case discussions, contribute to hospital protocols, and support ongoing professional development and client education initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited institution and eligibility for Michigan veterinary licensure.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry, including physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to explain medical conditions, discuss options, and build trust with clients and team members.
  • Commitment to evidence-informed practice, ongoing learning, and participation in continuing education and professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital setting, manage multiple cases, and maintain accurate, timely medical records.
  • Interest or experience in clinical research, quality improvement, or data-informed practice is beneficial.
  • Comfort with standard veterinary diagnostic equipment and practice management software; willingness to learn new tools and systems.
  • Prior experience in a small animal hospital or internship is preferred, though new graduates with strong clinical training are encouraged to apply.
