Project OverviewThe Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the USDA's chief scientific research agency that develops solutions to agricultural problems affecting Americans daily. The participant will be involved in an ongoing, collaborative project focused on identifying and selecting novel sources of disease resistance in beet. The participant will help collect field, lab, and greenhouse-based samples for disease detection and high molecular weight DNA extractions, under the guidance of a mentor, exposing them to the research cycle.

ORISE InformationThis program is administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), established through an interagency agreement between DOE and ARS. Participants do not become employees of USDA, ARS, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation;
health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.
The qualified candidate should have received or be currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in one of the relevant fields. The degree must have been received within the past one year and six months or be anticipated to be received by December 31, 2028.
