Research Technician – Microbiology Product Research and Development

The Research Technician in the Microbiology Product Research and Development team is responsible for innovating, developing, and validating novel food safety solutions and supporting existing products across Neogen’s Microbiology portfolio. This role applies scientific knowledge to develop microbiological-based products for food safety applications.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct experimental testing of product performance at multiple stages of production.
  • Order necessary materials to ensure timely completion of projects and ensure all purchases are coded to the appropriate project budget.
  • Prepare all reagents necessary for experimentation.
  • Record experimental results, analyze data, and provide summaries to senior team members for review and collaborative planning of future experimental paths.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of experimental data/observations in electronic files and electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and equipment records, including pH meters, incubators, and other laboratory instruments in compliance with 5S/GLP standards.
  • Assist senior team members in troubleshooting commercialized product performance.
  • Develop a working knowledge of products and processes.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biological Science or related field. (Preferred:
    Two to four years of research and/or laboratory experience, focusing on executing experimental plans, preparing reagents, recording and analyzing data, and creating data summaries.)
  • Knowledge of foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms, and common microbiological culture media or diagnostic methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees or groups in the organization.
  • Ability to perform routine college level mathematical operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, One Drive, Teams) and ability to communicate electronically.
