Position: Environmental Quality Analyst 9-P11 - Asbestos

Job Overview

Conducts activities associated with the implementation of the federal asbestos national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) regulations. Duties include site inspections for demolitions and renovations where regulated asbestos‑containing materials (ACM) are present, collection and proper disposal of ACM into landfills, investigation of asbestos complaints, interpretation of regulations, and preparation of letters of violation and referral packages for enforcement. Requires thorough understanding of observations, documentation, chain‑of‑custody, database entry, and statewide travel.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections for demolitions and renovations involving regulated ACM.
  • Collect, document, and properly dispose of ACM in landfills.
  • Investigate asbestos complaints.
  • Interpret asbestos regulations.
  • Prepare letters of violation and referral packages for enforcement.
  • Maintain observations, documentation, chain‑of‑custody records, database entries, and travel logs.
Education and Experience

Education:

Possess a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies and sustainability, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management; OR a bachelor’s degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in disciplines such as biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, crop and soil science, ecology, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies and sustainability, forest management, geology, meteorology, microbiology, physical geography, physics, remote sensing, resource development, resource management, toxicology, or zoology.

Experience:

Environmental Quality Analyst levels 9–12:

  • No specific type or amount required for Analyst 9.
  • One year of professional experience for Analyst 10.
  • Two years of professional experience, including one year equivalent to Analyst 10, for Analyst P11.
  • Three years of professional experience, including one year equivalent to Analyst P11, for Analyst 12.
Additional Requirements

Position will be located at the Detroit District Office or the Warren District Office. Official college/university transcripts are required for applicants who meet the academic criteria.
