Job Skills / Requirements

Shift Opening(s):
Part-Time Monday - Sunday Various Days/ 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. Must be available to work all shifts, including weekends. Shifts are assigned on a 2-3 month rotation.

Rate of Pay: $20

About the Job:

  • Control Center Operator is an unarmed role responsible for protecting the State of Michigan’s buildings, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters, as well as providing outstanding customer service. Highly flexible availability is required for this role.

Keys to Control Center Operator success:

  • Be computer literate and able to use standard office software.
  • Dress professionally and have excellent personal hygiene and grooming standards.
  • Have excellent customer service and phone skills.
  • Remain calm in emergencies and able to de‑escalate situations.
  • Commit to working with the team, studying and applying post guidelines and job duties with high accuracy.
  • Pay attention to detail.

Common Duties of all Roles Include:

  • Customer Service:
    Be a positive reflection of the company and yourself by assisting client staff, visitors, and coworkers, and maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Observe and Report:
    Stay alert and be on the lookout for any suspicious activities and incidents.
  • Security Presence:
    Maintain a professional appearance and stand guard in and around building lobbies, reception areas, control centers, etc. Conduct foot and/or vehicle patrols of your assigned areas performing security officer duties as required.
  • Access Control:
    Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas, check employee and vendor IDs, and follow proper access procedures.
  • Safety Patrol:
    Ensure a safe and secure environment for all employees and visitors, enforcing the policies and procedures of the assigned location and reporting any safety concerns.
  • Emergency Response:
    Be ready and able to assist in emergencies, including the administering of CPR/First Aid/AED care and communicating with emergency personnel using the proper protocols. Control Center Operators are expected to be available for call‑ins 24/7.
  • Security Liaison:
    Maintain professional communication with the client staff, follow through with client requests, and keep the site supervisor/operations manager updated on all client communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Intermediate computer skills required – Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, and able to learn new software.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education certification, such as a GED, per MCL (2).
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
  • Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL (1)(c).
  • Must not have been convicted of any misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including for marijuana), or two or more alcohol related offenses, per MCL (1)(c).
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk, including up and down stairs, for 8-12 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified (Child, Infant, and Adult), or willing to become certified and be physically capable of administering lifesaving care when needed.
  • Must be able to see clearly at least 20 feet away (assisted with glasses or contact lenses if necessary).
  • Must be able to hear conversations in loud environments either in-person or via radio.
  • Must be able to use a smart mobile phone and computer to type, check and respond to emails, and complete online training.
  • Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Military veterans and people with security, firefighting, department of corrections, or law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply.
