Position Description
As an armed and uniformed civilian member of the Michigan State Police, the State Properties Security Officer's (SPSO) mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors, employees, and the public within state-owned buildings and properties. SPSO's are authorized to exercise arrest powers on state properties while on duty and in uniform. From the historic Michigan State Capitol to other state-owned buildings, you will be the first line of defense for both people and property.
This dynamic role requires you to conduct routine patrols, monitor security systems, and promptly respond to any incidents or security breaches. You will play a crucial role and be prepared to handle challenging situations while providing the tradition of service through excellence, integrity, and courtesy.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Experience for Level E8 requires 1 year of experience;
Level E9 requires 2 years of experience, including 1 year equivalent to Level E8. Level 7 requires no specific experience.
- No criminal record offense or felony convictions that would prohibit possession of firearms.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Michigan driver’s license.
- Willingness to undergo a thorough background investigation.
- Minimum age 18.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening that includes a drug screen, criminal history background check, and fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
