The main mission of the City Rescue Mission of Lansing, since its founding, has remained to teach the Word of God as found in the Christian Bible (Romans 10:13-15), edify and equip the saints to be committed followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings (Ephesians 4:11-13), and present an authentic representation of traditional, Biblical Christianity (Philippians 1:9-11). For this reason, employees will be guided by the Doctrinal Statement established by the Board of Directors.

Job Overview:
This role is vital in the running of the Shelters of the City Rescue Mission. Security Personnel oversee everyone who has access to the City Rescue Mission Facilities, Completes Rounds on scheduled basis ensuring the building is secure and the staff and guests are safe. Security assists coordinators and supervisors with deescalating situations as needed. Security personnel must be friendly and encouraging while maintaining shelter policy and procedure with consistency and firmness, willing and ready to be involved in intense situations with little to no notice.

The Security personnel must also be able to complete tasks independently and accurately while staying calm under pressure.

Expected

Schedule:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift currently available
- Full or Part time. Rotating holidays. Weekends as scheduled. 1st Shift is 8am-4pm, 2nd shift is 4pm-Midnight, 3rd shift works 11pm-7am or Midnight-8am.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Monitor everyone entering the shelter- checking guest tracking software, volunteer schedules, or meeting/appointment schedules as necessary to ensure all who enter are authorized.
  • Use all available tools- including Body Cams, Wands to track rounds, Narcan, etc – to ensure safety of yourself, our guests, our staff, and our facilities as a whole and to ensure yourself and the ministry are above reproach.
  • Complete rounds of the facilities as scheduled - ensuring the building is secure and no issues have arisen.
  • Assist all other staff with de-escalation of moderate to difficult situations, Escorting people off property when necessary.
  • Be the liaison for emergency services when they are called, ensuring they have all pertinent information.
  • Instituting bars, adding guests to the no trespassing list, and other appropriate measures relating to safety.
  • Assist with phone calls and other incoming communication as necessary.
  • Maintain good communication with the department and a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Have a good understanding of shelter policies and procedures and execute them properly.
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Show the love of Christ, be ready to share the gospel, and pray with guests regularly.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
    - Required
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Suite
    - Required
  • 1 Year Security Experience
    - Preferred
  • CPR, AED, and NARCAN training
    - Preferred
Skills:
  • Ability to learn a new computer program within 30 days of introduction
  • Ability to head off and de-escalate issues with no notice, maintain in calm and kind under pressure
  • Ability to proficiently use a phone system that spans multiple facilities- including answering, transferring, putting calls on hold, etc. Within 15 days of introduction.
  • Ability to respectfully interact with guests and volunteers no matter their background, temperament, preferences, or life choices
  • Detail oriented, organized, thorough, and possessing the ability to multitask well
  • Ability to constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of all work assignments
