Position OverviewEquipment Operator is responsible for controlling and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency on construction sites.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Ability to safely, accurately, and efficiently help operate various pieces of heavy equipment.
- Perform Routine Maintenance:
Clean up around the job site and surrounding area, conduct regular inspections and maintenance on machinery to ensure it is in safe working conditions; lubricate and perform general maintenance. - Follow Safety Protocols:
Adhere to all safety regulations and workplace standards, obey traffic laws, participate in weekly safety meetings. - Load and Unload Materials:
Assist in loading and unloading materials or equipment as required. - Report Issues:
Promptly report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and incidents to supervisors. - Collaborate with Team Members:
Work closely with crew members, maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site in proper work attire ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Wearing PPE, steel‑toed footwear, safety glasses.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience helping operate or working around heavy equipment.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- CDL preferred.
- Ability to pass pre‑employment screening and testing.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements, procedures and PPE policies.
- Outdoor job site, extreme weather conditions, extended hours.
- Exposure to high levels of noise, dirt, grease, dust.
- Work near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Task may involve substances: form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, concrete.
- Walking on uneven surfaces, slopes, varying weather, wet, humid conditions, extreme heat or cold.
- Occasional vibration exposure.
- Noise level usually quiet but may require protective equipment.
- Language skills: ability to read, interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, write routine reports.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, ratios, percentages, interpret graphs.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems, interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, schedule form.
- Vision: color, close, distance, peripheral, depth, focus perception.
- Work at heights, climb and balance on ladders, scaffolds, stair towers; narrow steps and passageways.
- Physical movements: walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, lifting.
- Regularly sit/stand for at least eight hours per day on uneven surfaces.
- Hands: use, reach, operate tools.
- Carry, lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs without assistance.
- Operate equipment under extreme temperatures and for extended hours.
