Utility Locate Technician

Utility Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground and exposed utility lines—including electric power, gas, and fiber optic—for client and state compliance. Tasks include observing, locating, marking, documenting utilities, and using multiple locating methods. Technicians work independently or as part of a team under a supervisor, requiring focus, skill, and the use of specialized machinery.

• Locate underground facilities using transmitters and other equipment.
• Work in diverse terrain and weather conditions near construction zones, residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas.
• Interpret job orders, blueprints, and maps to plan and execute tasks.
• Perform scheduled and emergency locates, including overtime and holiday hours as needed.
• Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
• Use protective equipment and company‑provided vehicle, laptop, and smartphone.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
• Ability to problem‑solve, read and interpret multiple types of prints, and lift over 50 lbs.
• Strong communication skills.
• Background screening with no violations in the last five years.
• DOT drug test compliance.

• Monday to Friday (including on‑call and weekend availability as needed)

• Computer skills: 1 year (preferred)
• Utility locating: 1 year (preferred)
