Farnham Equipment Company (FEC) is currently seeking a Service Technician for a full-time, on‑site role in Michigan
. This position is a union‑represented opportunity, primarily falling under the jurisdiction of the Michigan and Central Midwest Regional Councils of Carpenters.

Role Overview

As a Service Technician, you will be a critical part of a team dedicated to maintaining, repairing, and installing specialized facility equipment for educational and institutional markets.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair telescopic seating (indoor bleachers), outdoor grandstands, and athletic equipment (e.g., basketball backstops, divider curtains).
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and conduct field service work.
  • Perform high‑quality safety inspections using the FEC Inspection App.
  • Ensure all equipment is safe, functional, and meets regulatory compliance and insurance liability standards.
Key Qualifications
  • Skills
    :
    Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair abilities.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification is a plus).
  • Willingness to travel locally within the service area (Ohio and Michigan).
  • Ability to pass BCI and FBI background checks regularly.

    Must be a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) or willing to join upon hire (FEC provides sponsorship).
  • Training
    :
    All technicians must complete apprenticeship requirements to become Union Journeyman Carpenters and obtain certifications for operating equipment like scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts.

Key Notes
  • We travel all over the state of Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula, and sometimes to Ohio as support.
  • Service Technicians typically work Monday – Thursday, with an occasional Friday or Saturday depending on customer needs.
  • You must have reliable transportation.
  • You will be reimbursed for mileage.
  • Hotels and daily per diem are provided for jobs outside of the candidates 'Local' area.
