Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant - Lansing, MI

Responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing all fiber optic cables within the system network and related equipment, with the goal of maximizing operating efficiency. Also install, maintain, and troubleshoot customer premises equipment and network interfaces.

• Perform setup, testing, and maintenance for CPE installation of POTS, DSL, and networking services.
• Install and maintain CPE LANs and WiFi networks.
• Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and optical network terminals (ONT).
• Troubleshoot from MDF to demarcation point including CPE.
• Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable time frames.
• Install OSP facilities per engineered or service orders.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems.
• Conduct cable/fiber testing and splicing.
• Locate fiber optic cabling.
• Record and report all record changes immediately.
• Complete inventory replenish requests as needed.
• Work other duties as assigned.
• Available to travel for training as needed.
• Perform on-call rotation duties after regular hours as needed.
• Available to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One to two years in the telecommunications industry or related experience.
• Some trade school training desirable.
• Professional conduct with customers and associates.
• Meet key performance metrics.
• Physical ability to work in various conditions, including adverse weather.
• Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods.
• Physical ability to climb ladders up to 25 feet with proper equipment.
• Able to lift and carry loads up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to work with basic hand tools and specialized equipment with training.
• Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely, including DOT certified bucket truck and trailer.
