Position OverviewThis is a Master level position. The employee obtains permits and performs a full range of plumbing work as required by law for construction and remodeling projects. The employee will have backflow certification or be willing to obtain certification within one year of hire. The employee uses independent judgment to make decisions without supervision and assists in training lower‑level plumbers. The employee works with other plumbers and trades on state property projects for maintenance, construction, and remodeling.
The employee utilizes power tools and other equipment appropriate to the work and provides courteous customer service to staff and tenants.
- Obtain permits and perform plumbing installations, repairs, and maintenance.
- Use independent judgment to make decisions without supervision and assist in training lower‑level plumbers.
- Collaborate with plumbers and trades on all state property projects.
- Operate power tools and equipment appropriate for the work.
- Provide courteous customer service and cooperate with staff and tenants.
- High school completion or equivalent.
- Four years of plumbing trade experience, including two years performing skilled plumbing.
- Master plumber license issued by the State of Michigan.
- Willingness to obtain backflow prevention certification within one year of hire.
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL) if required by law for state vehicle operation.
- Strong skills in reading blueprints and using computerized maintenance management systems.
