Utility Worker
General Statement of Duties:
Employees in this classification perform a variety of semi-skilled operations involving physical exertion, operation of machinery, equipment maintenance and repair, and quality control.
Work is performed within established departmental guidelines under the supervision of the Department Head, Foreman, or an Employee of a higher grade who assigns work and checks for proper performance of duties.
Supervision ExercisedMay act as lead man in a small work crew.
Examples of Duties- (a) which member(s) of the classification have performed in the past, or
- (b) which are required to meet emergencies, or
- (c) which are required to provide necessary services when other Employees are absent or not available, or
- (d) which involve the use of new equipment, procedures or techniques in the performance of such duties.
Familiarity with the materials, methods, and practices of water and sewer system installation and maintenance. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to work from drawings. Skill in the use of tools and equipment common to water & sewer systems construction, maintenance, and service. Mechanical aptitude.
Qualifications:
Preferred possession of a valid driver’s license with a Class B or A CDL endorsement. Preferred possession of a valid Michigan EGLE Waterworks System Operator Classification S-4 certificate.
