Responsibilities
The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is filling full‑time and part‑time Elevator Inspector (E11) positions in various locations throughout Michigan. The inspector will assess new or altered elevator devices to determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, and standards; perform annual or periodic inspections on commercial elevators; order necessary corrections when violations are identified and follow up to ensure corrections have been made;
maintain records and reports; investigate elevator accidents and complaints; and assist in prosecution of violations.
- Completion of high school or equivalent.
- Six years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, or maintenance of elevators, including two years equivalent to a journey‑level elevator skilled trades worker.
- Possession of a Class A elevator journeyperson license issued by the State of Michigan or equivalent requirements accepted for Class A elevator journeyperson licensure by the State of Michigan licensing agency.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
Applicants must be able to provide the Class A elevator journeyperson license number and evidence of six years of experience for the application process. The use of artificial intelligence software is prohibited in all parts of the selection process. Applications may be submitted for either a full‑time or part‑time position.
