Job  – Michigan Paving and Materials, a CRH company, is seeking a skilled laborer to operate heavy equipment and perform maintenance tasks on construction sites.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Operate various pieces of equipment accurately, efficiently, and safely.
  • Clean up around the plant and surrounding area.
  • Lubricate and perform general maintenance on the equipment.
  • Follow directions and actively participate in weekly safety meetings (Tool Box Talks).
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site in proper work attire and be ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Strictly adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the company policy book.
  • Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co‑workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Education And/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience helping to operate or working around heavy equipment.
Job Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment screening and testing.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies.
Physical Demands
  • Language skills: read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; hear and speak effectively to customers or employees.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Vision: color, close, and distance vision; peripheral, depth, and focus perception vision.
  • Work at heights, requiring climbing and balancing on ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.
  • Perform walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and lifting.
  • Regularly sit and/or stand during a work shift of at least eight hours per day on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes in varying weather conditions.
  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Carry, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Operate equipment under extreme temperatures for extended hours.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on project needs and demands.
Work Environment
  • Work outdoors on a job site in extreme weather conditions for extended hours.
  • Environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, dirt, grease, and dust typical of construction projects.
  • Regularly work with or near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • May be exposed to substances or materials commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Regularly work near moving mechanical parts, walk on uneven surfaces, and be exposed to wet, humid airborne particles, extreme heat or cold.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration.
  • Noise level is usually quiet but may require protective equipment at some facilities.
