Job Title

Electrician Licensed E9 / Electrician Master Licensed E10 – One vacancy

• Electrician Licensed E9: $31.38 – $40.32 per hour.

• Electrician Master Licensed E10: $31.75 – $43.30 per hour.

Responsible for the maintenance of all roadway electrical devices and electrical equipment for the University Region. This position performs work independently or as part of an electrician work group to address the state trunkline electrical needs within the University Region. Responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and performing routine and emergency repair of signals, freeway lighting, and related electronic equipment. The electrician inspects the work of contractors hired by Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to install signals and freeway lighting to ensure that all work conforms to specifications and the electrical code as regulated by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), and accepts the contracted work.

The electrician also inspects preventative maintenance work of contractors and contract agencies.

Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., aerial bucket truck, work trailer, arrow board) when installing and/or repairing aerial traffic signal equipment, setting poles and pedestals, installing or repairing overhead wires and cables, and installing or repairing lighting at MDOT facilities.

• High school completion or equivalent.

No specific type or amount of experience is required beyond that required for licensure. Possession of a journeyman electrician’s license (E9) or master electrician’s license (E10) issued by the State of Michigan is required.

• Possession of a Commercial Learner’s Permit upon appointment to the position. Continuing employment requires possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Group A with either an N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions, obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Clearance of a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test and physical (if applicable). The selected candidate may be required to submit to and pass random drug and alcohol testing while employed. Criminal and driving records will also be checked if applicable.
• Acceptance of the position is contingent upon satisfactory results of background and driving record checks.

MDOT does not participate in E-Verify and does not sponsor visa applications. The position is a Test-Designated Position requiring a drug and physical test upon appointment and ongoing random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
