Starting Salary Range: $43.32 - $48.41

* GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

** Through independent study, attendance in prescribed vocational courses, and hands-on process experience, as outlined in apprenticeship program, employee must demonstrate steady progress in acquisition of journey worker capabilities to repair and maintain equipment in all electric generating stations and associated equipment.
*
* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

*** Through training, learns to:  + Repair and maintain various processes and equipment associated with all BWL facilities such as fuel system equipment; boiler systems, RO systems and associated equipment such as pumps, fans, pre-heaters, heaters, regulators/valves, turbine system equipment such as E.H.U. system, filters, various types of seals, and steam packing, etc.  + Condensate system and related equipment; wastewater treatment system equipment;

cooling tower system equipment; hydro systems including dams and flood gates; various types of pumps; and generating system equipment such as hydro system, exciters, G.E.X., etc.; as well as various other miscellaneous plant equipment.  + Lubricate and perform routine oil changes on equipment.  + Use the tools of the trade to perform journey worker duties of millwright, machine repair, and tool and die.  

+ Tools used include gas welder, cutoff and chain saw, submersible pumps, oxyacetylene and Mapp torch kit; gas drill, hammer-drill, impact wrenches, various pneumatic and hydraulic tools; pipe-threading and pipe-bending tools; measuring tools including micrometers and calipers; and rigging tools such as chain falls, pullers, trolleys, A-frames, etc.  + Read and interpret blueprints.  + Operate mobile equipment such as trucks, cranes, worker lifts, scissor lifts, mobile welding unit, air compressors, etc.,

requiring use of hand and foot controls.  + Perform all tasks safely, keeping individual safety and the safety of those around you uppermost in mind.
* Climbs and works from ladders and scaffolds.
* Works in confined spaces.
* Must communicate capably through speech and in writing.
* Required to follow BWL safety manual and wear personal protective equipment as required.
* Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA and NFPA 54, 55 and 56.
* Must be willing to work any shift, weekends, and rotating weekly standby.
* Perform other duties necessitated by job responsibilities.
** JOB SPECIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
*** High school diploma or equivalent.
* Qualified in Pre-Apprenticeship Pool:
Math
- Level 4, Reading
- Level 5, Writing
- Level 6.
* Good BWL work record.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word and Office 365.

* PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

** Must climb and work from ladders and scaffolding. Must have good visual acuity for reading blueprints and operating rigging and lifting equipment such as cranes, fork trucks, Manlift etc. Good hearing is necessary to localize sounds and hear conversations in noisy environments. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be respirator certified and fit tested. Job requires sitting approximately 10% of time, standing about 60% of the time;

and walking about 30% of the time; longest period without a break is 2 hours.

* WORKING CONDITIONS:

** All temperature and humidity ranges. Dust levels can be high, requiring occasional wearing of respirators. Possible exposure to coal dust, fly ash, asbestos and lead. Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection.
