Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Labor & Trades, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, backhoes, haul trucks, and other assigned machinery.
Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.
Conduct excavation, grading, trenching, back filling, material movement, and site preparation activities.
Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications.
Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues, malfunctions, or safety concerns.
Perform routine maintenance, including fueling, lubricating, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
Follow all safety regulations, company policies, MSHA and OSHA requirements.
Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, utilities, and environmental hazards.
Coordinate with supervisors, truck drivers, laborers, and other equipment operators to ensure efficient project completion.
Complete equipment inspection reports, maintenance logs, and production records.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications RequiredHigh school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license.
Experience operating heavy construction or industrial equipment.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge of safe equipment operating practices.
Strong commitment to workplace safety.
PreferredCommercial Driver's License (CDL).
OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification.
Experience with GPS-guided or grade-control systems.
Equipment-specific certifications or training.
Experience in construction, utilities, roadwork, mining, or industrial operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesEquipment operation and control.
Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
Understanding of excavation and grading procedures.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, climb, and enter/exit equipment for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to see, hear, and react quickly to changing job-site conditions.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Working ConditionsOutdoor construction, industrial, quarry, agricultural, or utility environments.
Exposure to dust, vibration, noise, and changing weather conditions.
May require overtime, weekends, and travel to different job sites.
Regular operation of heavy machinery around moving vehicles and personnel.
