Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker, Heavy Equipment Operator
The primary role performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, skilled, technical, and maintenance work in the planning, construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City streets, recreation, parks, buildings and grounds, and storm drainage facilities and systems. Perform duties equivalent to heavy equipment operator position.
The secondary role performs a variety of administrative, skilled, technical, and maintenance work in the planning, construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city water & sewer infrastructure and facilities as needed.
Also performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems.
Works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, City Manager, or other assigned.
Exercises supervision over assigned personnel and equipment, operations, ground workers or other temporary staff as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and
- Minimum five (5) years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of water, sewer, street, or storm drainage systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience or 3 years of assisting a supervisor/department head.
- State of Michigan DEQ Drinking Water Operator Certification Level D3 (Treatment)
- State of Michigan DEQ Drinking Water Operator Certification Level S3 (Distribution)
- MDEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant License.
Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in public water supply and distribution systems, sewer collection systems, storm drainage systems, and street systems;
Thorough knowledge of pipe installation, connection and repair;
Thorough knowledge of road construction and maintenance. - Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to guide, direct and motivate employees;
Ability to operate and maintain various equipment used in water maintenance and repair such as backhoe, dump trucks and sewer cleaners;
Ability to organize and supervise the activities of various crews performing construction and maintenance work;
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
- Valid State Driver's license
- Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement) within three months of employment.
- Enhanced Commercial Driver’s License with Tank Vehicle Endorsement
