Peckham Youth Advisor
Under the supervision of the Footprints Coordinator, the Youth Advisor is responsible for the direct care of the female at‑risk youth entrusted to Peckham. The role involves creating a safe, caring team environment and may include participation in the development, implementation, and documentation of each adolescent’s treatment plan. Duties also encompass personal, health, and behavioral needs, light housekeeping, assisting with homework, cooking, completing required paperwork, and engaging residents in community and recreational activities.
The position must be filled by a female staff member.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of youth residents by monitoring behavior, enforcing rules, and maintaining a secure environment.
- Provide guidance and emotional support to help youth cope with personal challenges, trauma, and daily life struggles.
- Mediate conflicts between residents and help resolve disputes constructively.
- Encourage and assist youth in participating in scheduled activities, recreational programs, and therapeutic sessions aimed at skill development, education, and personal growth.
- Keep accurate records of youth behavior, incidents, progress, and daily activities; report concerns or changes to supervisors or professionals.
- Implement behavior‑management techniques and programs to promote appropriate behaviors and coping strategies.
- Serve as a role model, providing positive examples and supporting personal development.
- Work closely with other staff members, social workers, counselors, and parents/guardians to ensure comprehensive care and development of the youth.
- Assist with basic needs such as meals, personal hygiene, and daily routines.
- Respond to emergencies, such as physical altercations or emotional crises, in a calm and effective manner.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services to all stakeholders.
- Assist in maintaining organization‑wide quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
TravelThis position has no travel requirements.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma.
- 6 months to a year of experience working with youth.
- Passing and maintaining security clearances.
- Unrestricted driver’s license with a clear driving record.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience with the juvenile court system.
