AID is looking for Juvenile Detention Specialists in Wayne County in a correctional facility. Candidates must be able to work either shift, as employees get mandated overtime occasionally.
Open interview Fridays:
Shift- AFT shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
- NOC shift (11:00 PM - 3:00 AM)
- Shifts include price differential for PM.
Weekly: 16-20 hours

On‑call rate: $22-$25
NotesEmployees will be guaranteed two days of work on a weekly basis, but must be on stand‑by for call‑offs, to which the on‑call rate will apply. Part‑time employees must be prepared to cover any shift call‑offs.
Job DescriptionJuvenile Detention Specialists participate in the security, care and custody of youth residents in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility who have been accused of criminal activity and are going through the judicial process.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the supervision and custodial care of a group of youths in the facility
- Participate in the care, guidance and recreation of resident youths
- Observe and follow institutional policies, procedures and specific instructions for employees of higher classification, while exercising independent judgment in supervising youths
- Supervise and instruct youths in personal hygiene, housekeeping and special detail work within the institution
- Provide counseling to delinquent youths on immediate behavioral problems as they arise
- Supervise meals and maintain records of activities and behavior of youths in charge
- Report unusual incidents and all injuries to the supervisor on duty
- Document youth activities and behavior, maintaining housekeeping supplies and clothing and special detail work in the facility
- Cooperate with Family Dependency Agency and internal investigations of alleged abuse
- Transport juveniles as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester hours, OR
- High school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year or full‑time paid experience in corrections, law enforcement, education, human services, social services, counseling or related field
A valid State of Michigan driver’s license and an acceptable safe driving record.
Credentials- OIG, SAM, OFAC and NSO screening
- Hepatitis B statement or declination (OSHA 29 CFR, (f)(2))
- Tuberculosis screening, including baseline TB test prior to placement at the facility (may include 2‑step PPD or Quantiferon Gold/T‑spot alternatives)
- Drug screening as required by contract
- Record of fingerprints on file with the State of Michigan within last year
- Physical exam
- Clear criminal history check
- Three educational or professional references unrelated to the applicant
- Competency testing, self skill testing, and OSHA‑approved core modules
- Willingness to accept any shift in a 24/7 operation
- Accept mandatory overtime
- Fluency in English
- Basic computer proficiency (spreadsheets, Microsoft Office)
