Overview
Parents are a vital partner in the collaborative efforts of the Region 7 Perinatal Quality Collaborative to ensure that birthing people and babies are healthy and thriving in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties. Their experiences, perspectives, and contributions help inform changes to make systems more equitable, culturally responsive, and family centered. To increase parent engagement, Region 7 will establish a parent ambassador program and hire 2–3 Parent Ambassadors to carry out the essential functions listed below.
EssentialFunctions
- Parent ambassadors will be a parent or primary caregiver of a child born to kindergarten entry OR a person who has experienced a pregnancy within the last five years.
- Ambassadors will serve as a point of contact for parent representatives and support them in participating in Region 7 meetings and activities.
- Ambassadors will identify and recruit new parent representatives.
- Ambassadors will provide coverage for all three counties in Region 7 (Eaton, Clinton, and Ingham).
- Ambassadors will serve a term of one year and may be invited to reapply annually based on adherence to roles and responsibilities.
- A parent may serve as an ambassador for no longer than five years or until their child enters kindergarten, with a possibility of an extension.
- Ambassadors will receive orientation to the role and sign an agreement to abide by duties and responsibilities; the agreement includes language about termination if responsibilities are not met.
- Ambassadors will reach out to parent representatives, act as their point of contact, and support their participation in Region 7 meetings and events.
- Ambassadors may develop online spaces (e.g., a Facebook group) for fostering a cohort of Region 7 parents.
- Ambassadors will recruit qualified individuals who meet the criteria of Parent Representatives and invite them to join the Region 7 Collaborative.
- Ambassadors will attend specific Region 7 Leadership meetings to support parent and community engagement efforts.
- Ambassadors will identify events and opportunities to attend, take photos at events for inclusion on social media, and may be provided with Region 7 swag such as shirts, items, or banners.
- ICHD will supply Ambassadors with equipment to support their role (e.g., a tablet).
- If an Ambassador determines they are unable to fulfill obligations and wishes to step down, the Leadership team will evaluate the situation and may:
- Recruit from new parent representatives.
- Ask the current Ambassador for recommendations.
- Review previous applicants.
- Ambassadors will provide monthly documentation of activities and hours spent.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to departmental standards regarding HIPAA and other privacy issues.
- During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform tasks similar to those in this description.
- Possess the ability to meet deadlines, change focus on projects, and multitask.
- Maintain dependable and regular attendance.
- Handle stressful situations on an occasional basis.
- Provide excellent customer service during stressful situations.
- Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of parent or community leadership experience.
- Parent or primary caregiver of a child born to kindergarten entry or a person who has experienced a pregnancy within the last five years.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills by engaging, interacting, and working with all individuals to ensure clarity and understanding in all interactions.
- The position works in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors there is no planned exposure to notable lights, noises, odors, temperatures, or weather conditions. Outdoors exposure may be extreme and uncontrolled.
- Position requires travel for meetings and appointments.
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, traverse, climb, balance, twist, bend, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, grasp, handle, pinch, type, and endure repetitive movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
- Requires the ability to exert 20 pounds or less of force on these tasks.
- Requires close visual acuity to perform tasks within arm’s reach (e.g., viewing a computer screen, using measurement devices, inspecting, assembling).
- Requires the ability to communicate and respond to inquiries both in person and over the phone.
- Requires the ability to operate a PC/laptop and enter and retrieve information from a computer.
- Requires the ability to handle varying and often high levels of stress.
