Overview

Parole/Probation Officer Internship – Skill Bridge Internship: A transitioning service member will develop competencies for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent through interaction with staff and offenders. This role assists with case management, investigations, and supervision in the community.

Approved locations in Michigan:
Troy, Jackson, Detroit, Mt. Clemens, Pontiac, Lansing, Reed City, Grand Rapids.

• Prepare background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court to determine sentences.
• Supervise offenders placed on community supervision through court-ordered probation or parole.
• Follow policy, procedures, work statements, FOA Memoranda, DOM, and Guiding Principles of the Department of Corrections.
• Work under direct supervision of a qualified Field Agent to meet department goals.
• Develop knowledge, skills, abilities, and motivation needed for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent.
• Assist with investigating criminal activity, supervision violations, interviewing offenders, victims, and witnesses.
• Evaluate offenders' progress toward supervision objectives.
• Support offenders’ families in mutual goal attainment.
• Receive specialized training in resources for justice‑involved veteran caseloads.

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, education psychology, family relations, human services, or theology.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Availability of an automobile for business.
• No conviction of a felony or unresolved misdemeanor/felony case in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
