Job Description

A Parole/Probation Officer is responsible for a variety of job functions related to felony offenders and the protection of the public. Responsibilities include preparing background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court for sentencing decisions, supervising offenders on community supervision through court‑ordered probation or parole from a state correctional facility, following departmental policies and procedures, and working under the direct supervision of a qualified Field Agent to meet departmental goals.
The Skill Bridge Internship provides transitioning service members with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent through daily interaction with staff and offenders, real‑time case management, and specialized training on justice‑involved veteran caseloads.

Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Criminal justice
- Correctional administration
- Criminology
- Psychology
- Social work
- Counseling and guidance
- Child development
- Sociology
- School social work
- Social work administration
- Education psychology
- Family relations
- Human services
- Theology
- Valid driver’s license.
- Availability of a personal automobile for business use.
- Applicants with a felony conviction will be screened in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017 and may be ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed.
