Description

Responsibilities- Under the supervision of CSDD Leadership, the Peer Mentor uses their own lived experience to encourage, support and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they work toward greater independence, community inclusion and personal goals described within their Individual Plan of Service. They will build genuine relationships, share practical guidance and help people gain confidence in directing their own services and lives.
The Peer Mentor is responsible for carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in such a manner that fulfills CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies and procedures.
- Possession of high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency required. A minimum of one year of experience interacting with persons with intellectual and/or developmental disability required. Applicants must have lived personal experience with an intellectual or developmental disability, and personal experience and willingness to self-identify as a person who has or is receiving behavioral health services with a willingness to use that experience helping others.
Must be able to attend the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council’s Peer Mentor training. Must obtain Peer Mentor certification within one (1) year of hire through the mandatory Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council and curriculum. Ability to communicate accurately and effectively both orally and in writing is required. Access to reliable transportation for job related use is required.
- Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a Michigan State Police clearance and verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
- $19.85 - $22.23 per hour. 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8am-5pm, with some evening and weekend hours per the needs of the caseload.
