Senior Ignition Developer
Location:
Comstock Park, Michigan - Lear ASI Automation Group.
As a member of the automation team, the Senior Ignition Developer will be responsible for leading, supporting, implementing, and developing ignition standards, pipelines, databases, and interfaces while driving innovation across Lear, globally.
The Senior Ignition Developer will oversee the design, testing, implementation, and training of HMI and SCADA systems, which commonly interface with process instrumentation, PLCs, and OITs. These systems incorporate on‑premises and cloud infrastructure and offer local and remote access. In this role, you will collaborate with team members and clients to apply your expertise and deliver impactful solutions.

- Assume responsibility for projects and ensure they are completed on time, fulfilling all project requirements.
- Offer technical expertise and guidance to team members and clients.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to boost efficiency and productivity.
- Keep current with the latest Ignition developments and firmware and be willing to integrate them into projects.
- Maintain a high level of quality and attention to detail in all work.
- Comprehensive understanding of team‑oriented best practices and processes, including but not limited to MS Project, Jira, Excel, or other forms of timeline/scope management.
- Actively listen, probe, and identify concerns. Develop credibility, loyalty, trust, & commitment.
- Ability to negotiate, resolve conflict and proactive decision analysis.
- Willingness to travel up to 40%. This may include domestic and international travel, depending on the project.

- Excellent organization and documentation skills for efficient task and time management.
- Skilled in developing Ignition systems with expertise including:
- Create user interface displays in Perspective for both desktop and mobile applications.
- Lead and support projects of varying sizes and implementations.
- Connect to diverse data sources and/or equipment.
- Understand ISA 18.2 Alarm Management Standard and alarm notification in Ignition.
- Develop compliance and custom reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
- Proficient in programming languages like SQL, Python, Java, and others.
- 7+ years hands‑on experience designing, developing, and deploying Ignition SCADA systems (Vision and/or Perspective).
- Architect and develop enterprise‑scale Ignition 8.x SCADA solutions, including Perspective HMI/SCADA applications, Vision projects, and Gateway infrastructure (Ignition 8 and up is crucial).
- Design and implement UDT hierarchies, Tag Historian configurations, Transaction Groups, and Alarming systems following ISA‑95/ISA‑88 standards.
- Develop complex Named Queries, database schemas, and integration logic for SQL Server, Postgre
SQL, MySQL or other enterprise databases. - Lead OPC UA server/client implementations, Modbus TCP/RTU integrations, MQTT Sparkplug B architectures, and RESTful API development using Web Dev module.
- Build reusable component libraries, custom scripting modules (Gateway, Designer, Client scopes), and maintain version control best practices.
- Perform code reviews, establish scripting standards (Python/Jython), and enforce architectural patterns across projects.
- Lead customer‑facing technical discussions on architectures, and some essential knowledge on cybersecurity standards (ISA/IEC 62443), and IT/OT network design.
- Commission systems on‑site, perform FAT/SAT protocols, and deliver training to client operations/maintenance teams.
- Troubleshoot production issues, optimize system performance, and implement disaster recovery/high availability strategies.
- Document system architectures, create functional design specifications, and maintain as‑built documentation.
