The Operations and Maintenance Division within the Public Service Department is seeking skilled individuals to join their crew of Equipment Operator Workers for Surface. This position allows individuals to contribute their skills and abilities by performing maintenance both safely and properly for the overall improvement of City streets and roadways. If you enjoy working outdoors and accomplishing tasks with a dynamic crew, this could be the position for you.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License, Group A, with Air Brakes and N (Tank) Endorsement
- May require overtime or shift work for snow and ice control or other emergencies
- This position requires the operation of a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more. Therefore, pursuant to Section 601a of the Michigan Vehicle Code, the applicant recommended for this position must be able to pass the physical examination mandated by the State of Michigan in order to be transferred or hired for this position.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience operating a variety of manual and mechanical road construction equipment and experience performing heavy manual labor tasks.
- Two (2) years of experience operating a salt and plow trucks clearing public roads.
- MDOT Drug & Alcohol Training
- Must complete Traffic Regulator Training and Certification
- Must complete and maintain Power and Industrial Truck Training and Certification.
- Removes castings and grates using manual lift devices.
- Operates a large range of equipment including tandem axle dump trucks, street sweepers, vacuum and flusher trucks, rollers, sewer cleaner (jet-vac), bob cats, forklifts, tractors, loaders, graders for snow removal, sewer vacuum cleaners and snow and ice removal equipment.
- Transports bulk material such as asphalt, concrete, sand, gravel and top soil in dump trucks and other vehicles to and from storage areas and work sites.
- Ensures prior to excavation work Miss DIG is contacted and markings have been placed or site is cleared.
- Unloads and stacks materials by hand or with the assistance of forklifts and skid-steers.
