Job Summary

The primary duty of a Freight Forwarder is to review and process shipment transactions, including all related activities, for one or more major accounts. The role involves providing excellent, proactive and timely customer service, serving as the primary contact for all parties concerning assigned account contracts, and performing all duties correctly, cost‑efficiently, and according to company standards using discretion and independent judgment.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Promote positive relationships by ensuring excellent, timely, and proactive customer service at all times and in conjunction with other departments and third parties while monitoring the quality of service produced by the team.
  • Create and maintain detailed profiles and procedures that properly represent import and export processes.
  • Receive, review, and process high‑volume and/or complex import and export transactions for clients, including booking, billing, classification, data processing through the company’s system, and obtaining consular releases as well as other government agency releases as appropriate.
  • Check shipments in the warehouse as needed to ensure that shipping documents correspond to actual shipments.
  • Process bills of lading and provide clear instructions to the team for handling each shipment.
  • Ensure hazardous material shipments are checked and processed in accordance with all applicable regulations and government agency codes.
  • Create quotations for individual shipments, estimating freight prices, selecting transportation companies, and setting profit margins.
  • Review and monitor all Shipper Export Declaration rejections, client requests for information, and government agency correspondence.
  • Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations, communicating changes in procedures to clients, co‑workers, and third parties in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
  • Identify transactions and tasks that require special handling, recommend improved processes to management, and implement resolutions within the assigned scope.
  • Investigate, resolve client concerns proactively, monitor team performance against company and client standards, and alert clients to potential shipping problems.
Educational Background / Work Experience
  • Three years of experience in a role involving extensive client contact.
  • Familiarity with domestic and international geography, including countries and major cities.
  • Extreme attention to detail, ability to predict and prevent issues, and take corrective action.
  • Ability to maintain high productivity while staying composed under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Mathematical Skills
  • Excellent math skills, including calculation of freight measurements, weights, and conversion to international units.
Other Skills
  • Familiarity with domestic and international geography.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to be productive while staying composed under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Freight forwarding experience.
  • Prior use of Cargo Wise One.
  • English (reading, writing, and speaking).
Computer Literacy
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Physical and/or Mental Requirements

Functions involve using hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; stooping, kneeling, or crouching; talking or hearing. Computer and telephone equipment are used. Vision requirements include close and distance vision.

Compensation

Expected base pay range: $20.50
$27.75 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
