Lead Mechanic – Temporary

Comstock Park School District – Comstock Park Transportation. Comstock Park, Michigan.

Starting Date: Immediately

Term: Until September 2026

Perform major and minor mechanical work on school buses and other automotive equipment for the district, including repairs, replacements, preventive maintenance, and compliance with inspection requirements.

• Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and adjust all vehicle systems on district buses and equipment.
• Determine extent and type of repairs needed, estimate costs, and prepare invoices as necessary.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, monitor tune‑ups, lubrication, and oil filter changes.
• Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records for all district vehicles.
• Prepare and maintain parts inventory.
• Assist in annual state police bus inspections.
• Operate shop equipment, bus video surveillance systems, and two‑way radio systems.
• Maintain a clean and well‑organized garage.
• Collaborate with the Director of Operations, transportation, and bus drivers for scheduled and unscheduled activities.
• Adhere to OSHA and MIOSHA health and safety standards.
• Take responsibility for additional duties as assigned.

• Michigan school bus driver certification, valid MI driving license, or completed CDL with “S” and “P” endorsements.
• Certified mechanic with HD certifications in gas and diesel engines, brakes, drivetrain, electrical and steering suspension systems.
• HD certification in friction and brake training.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening.
• Physical examination and training hours satisfying state requirements.

Will be commensurate with education, qualifications, and relevant experience.
