SUMMARY OF POSITION
Safely and reliably transport and assist passengers during chartered bus trips.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Meet all general qualifications for employment.
- Successfully pass interview for Motor Coach Driver.
- Successfully pass Training Program, including:
- Classroom instruction
- Behind the wheel instruction
- Written and driving skills test
- Meet Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Certification Requirements.
- Minimum hours of instruction.
- Meet federal requirements for appropriate licensing.
- Meet federal physical examination requirements.
- Meet federal standards for driving skills test.
- Meet federal standards for driving record check.
- Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by company.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle as required.
- Route passenger stops efficiently based on customer request and/or charter order.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
- Instruct passengers regarding safety.
- Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- Drive with safety of passengers as first priority.
- Adhere to all company policies.
- Establish favorable working relationships with passengers, co-workers, customers and company management.
- Participate in training sessions, annual in-service, and workshops conducted by Dean Trailways and/or other approved agencies.
- Operate all vehicle types in transporting passengers used by Dean Trailways.
- Identify geographic service area and routes traveled.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies and day-to-day operations.
- Conduct a bus evacuation drill as required by Trailways Management.
- Keep accurate records and reports as required; submit in legible condition and on time.
- Conduct oneself as a professional Dean Trailways staff member at all times.
- Secure all equipment required for each passenger as prescribed in company policy.
- Lift and store luggage and devices required by passengers (up to a maximum of 40 pounds).
- Plan and execute trip changes by responding to customer needs and dispatch directives.
- Communicate clearly with passengers and staff members to ensure safety and efficiency of trips.
- Driving performance evaluations are performed continuously as part of our safety training.
- Motor Coach Drivers may be subjected to customized driving evaluations at any time during employment when specific concerns arise or improper driving reports are received.
- Open and close vehicle access doors to perform pre-trip requirements.
- Open and close vehicle entrance and emergency exits.
- Bend, push, and pull to load and unload a wheelchair, luggage, or other cargo by exerting a maximum of 40 pounds of push/pull pressure.
- Bend, support, and otherwise physically help passengers into and out of the vehicle.
- Carry and lift into and from the vehicle personal articles and adaptive equipment of various weights and sizes.
- Bend and stretch for the cleaning and securement of equipment in the interior of the vehicle.
- Bend, stretch, pull, and drag all persons, equipment or other types of articles that would be of varying sizes and weight out of vehicle doors and/or emergency exits on demand.
