Essential Functions

  • Answering incoming calls and dispatch/route vehicles by radio or mobile data terminals in an efficient manner.
  • Promptly notifies Lead Transportation Coordinator, Transportation Manager, and (Deputy) Executive Director of radio, vehicle, driver, maintenance, customer or other pertinent concerns.
  • Assist in accident and incident reporting as well as customer complaints.
  • Respond to emergency requests for assistance by notification of police, fire or ambulance as needed.
  • Oversees vehicle assignment and the status of vehicles with mechanics in absence of
  • Oversees record-keeping activities of operating staff, making sure all logs, checklists, and other daily data items are complete.
  • Oversee adherence to all policy and procedures.
  • Fill shifts, as necessary, upon call-ins from drivers.
  • In the absence of the Lead Transportation Coordinator and Transportation Manager, oversees and maintains schedules for drivers and is fully responsible for service delivery, vehicles and Drivers.
  • Perform any and all functions of a Driver as needed.
  • If required, preparation of special written and/or verbal reports.
  • Evaluates progress of Driver trainees. Periodically reviews on-the-job performance of Drivers and Call Center Operators. Reports to Lead Transportation Coordinator or Transportation Manager regarding system efficiency and evaluation of personnel.
  • Other duties as required by the management staff.
Education and Experience

Must have graduated from an accredited high school or equivalent, successfully completed a driver record check through the Department of State Bureau of Driver & Vehicle Record Lookup, and Criminal History check. The successful candidate will be able to show a satisfactory attendance record as well as a willingness to adapt to change in the working environment and work toward greater efficiency in operations.

The successful candidate will need to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical by an approved medical facility.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License with the approved endorsements to legally operate all ICTC vehicles.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of major and local streets in all of Isabella County as well as surrounding areas that are served.
  • Knowledge of regulation governing the ability to use the two-way radio system.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulation.
  • Knowledge of all Isabella County Transportation Commission’s policies, procedures and labor agreement.
Skills
  • Ability to answer incoming calls and routing vehicles by radio or mobile data terminals in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to use computers, specialized software (as it pertains to dispatching and timecards) and be proficient in typing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately make operating decisions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse, and sometimes irate individuals, and to calmly and efficiently handle situations ranging from routine to emergency.
  • Responsible for the appearance of the dispatch office.
  • Ability to lead and oversee other employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Must possess good public relation skills.

Job Requirements
  • Must be able to stand and/or sit continuously to perform job functions.
  • Must be able to physically stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb steps, crouch, handle or move passengers.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

Job Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License with a P endorsement.
  • Subject to random drug testing per ICTC’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy and Over-the
    - Counter and Prescription Medication Policy.
  • Subject to periodic driving record check through the Department of State Bureau of Driver and Vehicle Record Lookup.
  • Attend seminars, training and meetings as required by the (Deputy) Executive Director and in turn, provides such continuing education to other employees.
  • Attend all employee meetings.
Environmental Conditions
  • Variable Work Environments:
    Work is conducted indoors and out with varying environmental conditions.
  • When outdoors, employee will be subjected to weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions. This includes sunshine, rain, ice, snow, or mix.
  • Exposure to vibrating equipment and other environmental noise.
