The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to produce high-quality parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. The role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation:
- Operate CNC mills, lathes, routers, or other CNC equipment.
- Load raw materials and ensure the machine is properly calibrated.
- Run production cycles and monitor machine performance.
Setup & Programming Support:
- Set up tools, fixtures, and work holding devices.
- Interpret and adjust basic CNC programs (G-code) as needed.
- Perform offsets and tool changes during operations.
Quality Control:
- Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools.
- Verify finished components meet specifications and tolerances.
- Document inspection results and report deviations.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning.
- Troubleshoot minor machine issues and elevate complex problems.
- Keep equipment in optimal working condition.
Documentation & Safety:
- Record production data, material usage, and machine logs.
- Follow all company safety protocols, including PPE requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S).
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Experience operating CNC machines (1–3 years typical).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Basic understanding of G-code, machining principles, and tooling.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and components.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Background in CNC programming.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
