CNC 5-Axis Machinist
A precision machining operation is seeking a CNC 5-Axis Machinist to set up and operate vertical and horizontal 5-axis machining centers. The role involves machining metallic work pieces such as castings, weldments, forgings, plates, blocks, and tubing through operations including surfacing, profiling, boring, facing, and threading. This is a hands-on shop floor position working with large-format 5-axis equipment in an AS9100-certified environment.
Full time, onsite in Lapeer, Michigan. Confirm shift schedule with employer.
$25 - $35 Per Hour
What You'll DoYou will plan machining work by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) throughout. You will program 5-axis CNC machines using Mastercam and perform setups, including setting tools, offsets, and compensation, calculating tooling requirements using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry, proving part programs, three-point indicating work pieces with stock models and tooling balls, and hanging large work pieces on horizontal machining centers.
You will verify setups by measuring head clearance, machine travel, and positions, checking first-run and sample work pieces against international standards. You will maintain specifications by observing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting and performing root-cause analysis, adjusting and programming controls, and replacing worn tools while following quality assurance procedures.
You will maintain equipment through preventive maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance practices, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs as needed. You will maintain continuity across shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and non-conformities, and interface with Engineering, Programming, Materials, and Quality as necessary. You will document production and quality activity in Plex (ERP) and follow all safety procedures, security protocols, and PPE requirements.
