Position Summary

The registered nurse is a professional nurse who coordinates the delivery of nursing care for monitored patients during their hospital stay, including cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic stabilization, response to emergent situations, and care of evidence‑based medicine patients. The registered nurse ensures that quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Michigan Department of Public Health, the medical center, and nursing department standards.

Using the nursing process, the registered nurse functions primarily in direct patient care and participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment, preserving patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and respecting patient rights.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Performs purposeful hourly rounding that includes Pain, Position, Personal needs, and Possessions.

Applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge care needs for patients and families.

Provides professional direct and indirect patient care in the medical‑surgical telemetry setting.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Valid State of Michigan Nursing License.
BLS certified.
ACLS certified within 3 months of hire.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and present self to patient, visitors, other staff, and physicians verbally and in writing in a courteous, confident, and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 2 years OR experience.
CNOR Certification.
Previous work experience within the specific unit specialty.
Specialty certification within the specific unit.
