JOB TITLE:

Office Aide, Disability Support Services

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

University Disability Support Services

Job location:

Knight Hall First & Second Floors

Pay rate or range: $14.00 per hour

JOB PURPOSE:

Support the Disability Support Services Offices with varied tasks. Available work hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with evening hours available from 5:00-8:00 PM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Main Office Duties:

* Welcome students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the DSS office.

* Answer phones, schedule appointments and assist with the administration of testing for DSS students.

* Ask appropriate questions to determine how best to refer students to coordinators, other offices or to the DSS application process.

* Provide basic office support including filing, shredding, making copies, and providing quality customer service.

Testing Duties:

* Assist with the administration and proctoring of student exams during regular business hours (with occasional after-hour requirements).

* Use good judgement while managing exams (this can include managing situations of academic dishonesty, upset students or students in crisis, assisting in problem solving as needed).

* Ensure proper access to testing items (computers, laptops, software, etc.)

* Provide testing accommodation services for students: exam reading, exam scribing, etc.

* Be able to ensure exams are returned in a timely fashion.

* Be able to follow instructions and work independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

 HS diploma or GED and current UW student. May be of particular interest to education, social work or psychology majors.

Experience:

 No experience necessary.

Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Ability to follow DSS protocols and maintain strict confidentiality.

* Attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills.

* Ability to work as a team member and work independently without supervision.

* Dependable, reliable and able to maintain a consistent schedule.

* Possess strong problem-solving skills.

* Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (i.e., Outlook, Excel and Word).

Student employee will learn time & office management and interpersonal skills.
