Middle School Band Teacher / Band Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
* The Middle School Band Teacher / Band Director is responsible for providing instruction to students in instrumental music and band courses as specified in the District's curriculum. The position includes directing band ensembles, developing students' musical skills, preparing students for performances, and promoting student engagement in instrumental music education.
* This position is posted for the 2026/2027 school year.
CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Middle School Band Teacher / Band Director:
* Plans and prepares for classroom and ensemble instruction.
* * Has and maintains knowledge of subject-area (Instrumental Music/Band) and teaches to District objectives and/or student IEP's..
* * Personalizes instruction as necessary to account for individual student differences and varying levels of musical ability.
* * Provides instruction to students in instrumental music using a various teaching techniques and instructional strategies appropriate to ensemble and individual performance.
* * Utilizes appropriate assessment strategies to measure learning and performance.
* * Plans, organizes, and directs band rehearsals, concerts, festivals, and performances consistent with District and school expectations.
* * Maintains inventory and care of musical instruments, music, uniforms (if applicable), and equipment.
* * Assists students and families with instrument selection, care, and participation in the band program.
* * Collaborates with other music staff and school personnel to support student transitions between grade levels and programs.
* * Provides equity in the classroom by providing equal opportunity for students regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities.
* * Communicates with and constantly strives to maintain a positive relationship with students and parents.
* * Manages student behavior in the classroom, rehearsal spaces, and performance settings.
* * Organizes the classroom to promote learning, student safety, and ensures instruments, equipment, and facilities are maintained and used safely.
* * Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips.
* * Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).
* * Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
* * Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.
* * Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:
* Ability to use effective communication skills; knowledge of education law and regulations; ability to use time effectively; strong organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents; knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy and ensemble instruction; ability to lead rehearsals and performances;
and ability to help groups achieve consensus.
ENTRY
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree; certification from Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with the endorsement in Music K-12 and/or appropriate endorsement for instrumental music instruction.
Work Experience:
Experience as a secondary music teacher is preferred.
