Extension Educator, Asst - Weston Co. Community Vitality & Health
Extension Educator, Asst – Weston Co. Community Vitality & Health (CVH) is a full‑time position based in Newcastle, Wyoming. The purpose of the role is to deliver educational programs that improve the health and well‑being of Wyoming communities and to support the University of Wyoming Extension’s mission to empower residents through research‑based outreach.
Job PurposeDevelop partnerships with community leaders and groups to design, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based education programs in areas such as food preservation, food safety, civic capacity building, nutrition, physical activity, community wellness, or related topics identified through local needs assessments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Development and Delivery- Lead the development of learning relationships with community members and leaders through outreach, technical assistance, and coaching.
- Assess and advise on educational needs by gathering input from community stakeholders.
- Maintain awareness of existing community programs, resources, and businesses without favoring or competing with them.
- Design and deliver community programs informed by local needs and assets.
- Collaborate with Extension Specialists and scientific experts to ensure research‑based outreach; as a senior educator, participate in applied research or demonstration projects.
- Provide primary leadership in creating, implementing, evaluating, and improving comprehensive educational programs in CVH.
- Deliver education using appropriate strategies—presentations, workshops, trainings, and other outreach modes—to audiences ranging from youth to professionals.
- Support signature programs or statewide initiatives within the CVH focus area.
- Promote general Extension operations and outputs locally, and cooperate with other UW programs in the county.
- Develop evaluation tools (formative and summative) to measure and report program impact.
- Assist in 4‑H Youth Development partnership activities.
- Establish and support volunteers/partners who increase the capacity and sustainability of the CVH area.
- Cultivate relationships with volunteers/partners through orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation.
- Represent the University at community events.
- Address issues or conflicts involving volunteers, partners, or clients.
- Develop respectful and responsive working relationships with colleagues, partners, volunteers, clients, and the public.
- Use Extension communications resources to market programs via newspapers, radio, newsletters, websites, social media, podcasts, and other media.
- Develop and share communication and report materials that reflect positively on the University and UW Extension.
- Collect data and present reports on program outcomes for local leaders and community members.
- Ensure civil rights compliance in all programming.
- Expand educational reach to new audiences and guarantee full access for all participants.
- Plan for risk management through established procedures and resources.
- Practice fiscal responsibility and accurate accounting.
- Secure external funding to support and grow programming.
- Engage in internal funding collaborations to enhance team capacity.
- Demonstrate objectivity, professionalism, and accountability.
- Maintain organized records and provide timely accurate reports.
- Engage in continuous professional development to advance expertise relevant to the CVH area.
- Participate fully in UWE annual conferences and training sessions.
- New employees must attend new employee orientation and coaching team sessions.
- Join professional societies relevant to the discipline, Extension, or industry.
- Provide service to the university, college, department, locality, and community initiatives.
- Educational programming in CVH – 85%
- Support of 4‑H Youth Development programs – 15%
