Adjunct Instructor, Developmental Mathematics
Responsibilities:
- Develop, revise, and deliver course materials aligned with college standards for developmental mathematics courses such as Pre‑Algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II.
- Assess student performance and provide academic support to promote success.
- Organize and conduct laboratory experiments; supervise students in laboratory settings.
- Employ high‑impact teaching practices, maintain clear expectations, and evaluate learning through formative and summative assessment.
- Integrate effective classroom technologies to enhance learning.
- Model professionalism and embody the values, ethics, and behavior codes of LCCC and the discipline.
Compensation: $900 per credit hour.
Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.
Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process; adjunct positions are filled on an as needed basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge- Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, instruction, and measurement of training effects.
- Administrative office procedures and systems (word processing, file management, forms).
- Media production and communication techniques across written, oral, and visual media.
- Mathematics: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and applications.
- Effective speaking, instructing, and writing.
- Learning strategies, active learning, and active listening.
- Critical thinking, judgment and decision making, complex problem solving.
- Time management, organization, and communication.
- Document editing and interpersonal skills.
- Communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing.
- Apply general rules to specific problems and combine information to form conclusions.
- Organize tasks, resources, and workflows efficiently.
- Understand and manage emotions of self and others.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Interact professionally with students, staff, and the public in potentially emotionally challenging situations.
- Move around campus facilities, including hallways and meeting rooms.
- Perform prolonged sitting, standing, and computer use (keyboard, mouse). Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Require near vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Adapt to moderate to somewhat loud environments and multiple interruptions.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Mathematics or Math Education OR a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Economics OR Master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate credits in Mathematics.
- Equivalent professional experience, industry certifications, or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
- At least one year of college‑level teaching experience, including in a community college setting.
- Experience with web‑based learning management systems.
