Extension Educator, Asst - Park County Ag & Natural Resources
The University of Wyoming seeks an Assistant University Extension Educator whose expertise will empower the people of Wyoming to make informed decisions about agriculture and natural resources.
Job TitleAssistant University Extension Educator, Agriculture and Natural Resources (Irrigated Cropping Systems)
Job PurposeTo provide educational outreach and technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, and community members in Park County, focusing on irrigated cropping systems, horticulture, and natural‑resource issues relevant to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Development and Delivery- Build and maintain learning relationships with community members and leaders through outreach, technical assistance, and coaching.
- Assess educational needs and develop programs accordingly.
- Maintain awareness of local programs and resources.
- Establish professional partnerships with specialists and other experts.
- Lead the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of educational programs.
- Deliver presentations, workshops, trainings, and other outreach activities to diverse audiences.
- Support signature programs or statewide initiatives.
- Provide pesticide applicator training and certification support.
- Develop and use evaluation tools for measuring program impact.
- Collaborate with local 4‑H educators to support youth development.
- Recruit and support volunteers and partners who can enhance program reach and sustainability.
- Provide orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation for volunteers.
- Address conflicts that arise with volunteer, partner, or client relationships.
- Develop respectful relationships with colleagues, partners, volunteers, clientele, and the public.
- Use available media to market programs and deliver outreach materials.
- Prepare reports and presentations on program impact for community stakeholders.
- Ensure civil rights compliance and inclusive access to programs.
- Plan for risk management and fiscal responsibility.
- Secure external funding and collaborate on internal funding opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records and timely reporting.
- Participate in continuing professional development and meet annual goals.
- Attend UWE conferences and training sessions.
- Engage in professional societies related to the discipline.
- Contribute to university, college, departmental, local government, and community efforts.
- Farmers, ranchers, land managers, and small‑acreage producers.
- State agricultural, natural resource, wildlife, and environmental departments.
- Federal agencies such as NRCS, BLM, FWS, and USFS.
- Homeowners and community members with horticultural interests.
- Local government employees in open‑space and green‑space management.
- Youths and adults participating in 4‑H programs.
- Educational programming in ANR – 85%
- Support of 4‑H Youth Development – 15%
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution (or in‑progress Master’s completed by hire date).
- Degree in agronomy, agroecology, plant protection, horticulture, soil science, agricultural engineering, or related field.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel overnight, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Training or experience in irrigated cropping systems and at least one of weed management, soil fertility, center‑pivot technology, or related topics.
- Experience in horticulture (trees, lawns, gardens, small acreage).
- Experience with natural‑resource issues near the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver science‑based outreach.
- Experience developing partnerships with external organizations or agencies.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience teaching youth and adult audiences.
- Experience in needs assessment and program evaluation.
- Knowledge of Extension and the land‑grant university system.
