High School Physics Teacher

Albany County School District One – Laramie High School, Laramie, Wyoming.

Position Summary

The High School Physics Teacher is responsible for providing instruction to students in physics in assigned courses as specified in the District’s curriculum.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans and prepares for classroom instruction.
  • Has and maintains knowledge of subject-area (Physics) and teaches to District objectives and/or student IEPs.
  • Personalizes instruction as necessary to account for individual student differences.
  • Provides instruction to students in the prescribed area(s) (Physics) using various techniques and instructional strategies.
  • Utilizes appropriate assessment strategies to measure learning and performance.
  • Provides equity in the classroom by providing equal opportunity for students regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities.
  • Communicates with and constantly strives to maintain a positive relationship with students and parents.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom.
  • Organizes the classroom to promote learning, student safety, and ensures classroom equipment functions in a safe manner.
  • Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips.
  • Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, task forces, in-depth studies, or councils).
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of education law and regulations.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Collaboration and ability to work cooperatively with other staff.
  • Knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents.
  • Ability to lead meetings and help groups achieve consensus.
Entry Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree; certification from Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with the endorsement in secondary Physics.
  • Experience as a secondary science teacher (preferred).
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions
  • Vision:
    Ability to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing:
    Ability to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
  • Speech:
    Clear communication in face-to-face communications and telephone conversations.
  • Upper Body Mobility:
    Use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate small objects; use hands and arms to lift objects; move head.
  • Strength:
    Lift, push, pull and/or carry objects weighing as much as 5 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Environmental Requirements:
    Constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors and outdoors.
  • Mental Requirements:
    Read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level; math skills at high school proficiency; judgment; process information quickly; give verbal instruction; prioritize tasks; compile and coordinate information and records.
  • Additional Work Conditions:
    May require travel to multiple sites.
Evaluation

Evaluation of this position will be conducted by the Principal/Assistant Principal.

Position Details

Position Type:
Full-Time.

Salary: $63,500 to $95,296 Per Year.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
