Description:
The Radiation Therapist administers ionizing radiation to patients as prescribed.
Administers prescribed course of radiation therapy.
Calculates procedure details such as length and intensity of exposure to radiation, size and strength of dosage, and setting of recording equipment.
Evaluates and assesses the daily physiological and psychological responsiveness of patients and ensures quality care for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Participates in patient and community education regarding radiation therapy.
Assists in the billing and coding process for radiation therapy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Associate's degree in Radiation Therapy required.
Associate's degree in Radiation Technology required.
Experience:
Previous experience as a Radiation Therapist required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, oncologic pathology, radiation biology, radiation oncology techniques, treatment planning procedures, and dosimetry.
Ability to display competence, compassion, and concern in meeting the special needs of oncology patients.
Excellent customer service skills, including a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy, and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers, and the general public verbally and in writing.
Demonstrates effective listening skills.
Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to establish priorities effectively.
Possesses exceptional problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
Ability to learn new computer software programs.
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
Demonstrates ethical and legal accountability for the position.
