JOB DESCRIPTION:Substitute School Nurse
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Substitute School Nurse is responsible for managing a health services program at the school site for the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health of students in the absence of the School Nurse.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers basic health care and First Aid in the absence of the School Nurse for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children. *
- Performs health screenings, informs parents of identified problems and makes appropriate recommendations for interventions. *
- Administers and/or facilitates administration of medication at school per district policy. *
- Develops, implements, and/or utilizes individualized health care plans developed by a licensed healthcare provider for students with special health care needs in collaboration with students, their families, staff, licensed healthcare providers, and other agencies as appropriate.
- Maintains school health records. *
- Prepares and submits reports as required. *
- Works closely with students who are identified as having a health-related disability by providing direct nursing services, monitoring progress with respect to health conditions, and consulting with students, teachers, parents, and other licensed healthcare providers.
- Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips. *
- Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).
- Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
- Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:
- Ability to use effective communication skills; knowledge of education law and regulations; ability to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents; ability to lead meetings; and ability to help groups achieve consensus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree; current license to practice as a registered nurse in Wyoming.
Work Experience: Prior experience working as a registered nurse is preferred.
