Research Aide– Flash Pyrolysis
JOB PURPOSEThis position exists to support the research of SER’s Center for Carbon Capture and Conversion (CCCC) on novel, sustainable ways to convert coal to other materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESGrinding and sieving coal to prepare samples, operating flash pyrolysis reactor, cleaning reactor after runs, replacing and fixing components on various equipment, testing and analyzing flash pyrolysis products (all under the supervision of a research scientist). Testing may include Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Gas Chromatography (GC). Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONSAssist with laboratory testing as required.
COMPETENCIESAbility to learn.
Interest in laboratory work.
Organized.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSCurrent UW student in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related natural science or engineering discipline.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSBasic exposure to a laboratory setting.
Problem solving capabilities.
Works well independently and in team environments.
