Overview: An Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting a broad variety of work at the plant, quarries, and terminals, including conducting audits and inspections, collecting environmental data, writing reports, providing training on environmental topics, and all work necessary to maintain compliance at the site. This individual will be encouraged to develop themselves professionally through hands-on work, mentoring, certifications, licensure, and training opportunities.

Basic qualifications and/or traits that the Environmental Specialist must possess include:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Timely and sound decision-making skills.
  • An understanding of environmental regulations under the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • The ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Experience in manufacturing.
  • Use of Microsoft documents, information, data, presentation software (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Method 9 certification preferred.

Responsibilities:The responsibilities of the Environmental Assistant include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership; must lead by example, be a good negotiator, and team builder.
  • Integrity and ethical behavior beyond reproach.
  • Must possess good communication skills; writing, speaking, listening, etc.
  • Proficiency in establishing goals that are clear, well-defined, and measurable. Must be able to communicate these objectives clearly to others and provide feedback/appraisals to ascertain if the objectives are being met.
  • Must possess good decision-making skills based upon the ability to accurately identify problems, collect relevant information/data, and generate cost-effective

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science or Engineeringrequired
  • Experience working in industrial environmentpreferred

Physical Requirements:
The Environmental Assistant position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Working 8-12 hours shifts.
  • Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
  • Lifting 65+ lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
